The Vehicle
A 1980 FJ40 we restored in 2015, found as an exceptionally honest, rust-free example and the ideal candidate for a full rebuild. We stripped the car back to bare metal, took the chassis down to nothing and built it back up as a nut-and-bolt restoration, with OEM parts used throughout.
Mechanically it keeps its original 4.2-litre 2F engine, gearbox and transfer case, rebuilt and set up for easy everyday driving. A front Toyota FJ60 disc brake assembly with servo assistance was fitted for confident, modern stopping, and it rolls on 16" powder-coated steel wheels wrapped in Maxxis Bravo A/T tyres.
Inside, the original factory grey vinyl was preserved and air conditioning added for comfort on warmer days, with the original Toyota toolkit still present and correct. The car was sold to a client here in the UK, where it could be seen turning heads darting around Henley-on-Thames. Shown here as an example of the work we do.
