The Vehicle
A 1978 FJ40 taken back to bare metal in 2019, with a thorough body-off rebuild returning the car to its original Nebula Green. OEM parts were used throughout, as on every build we do.
Mechanically it keeps its original 4.2-litre 2F engine and three-speed gearbox, both stripped and reassembled — the excellent compression and condition of this lower-mileage example meant a full rebuild was never needed. Bilstein shocks were added front and rear, the original leaf springs restored and rebushed, and new hoses, brake lines and a new petrol tank fitted throughout.
Inside, we preserved the original factory vinyl and added a fitted vinyl carpet with loose coco-mat mats over the top. Power steering, air conditioning and servo-assisted brakes were added, along with a discreet Bluetooth audio system running integrated hidden speakers. A wonderfully comfortable Land Cruiser, equally at home in town or off the beaten track.
